Download Bytopsy.

Bytopsy is a free, open-source disk analyzer, safe cleaner and PC maintenance tool for Windows. It shows what fills your drives, cleans caches and junk without touching what matters, and keeps drivers, apps and disks healthy.

  • 64-bit Windows (x64)
  • Portable zip, no installer
  • Free, MIT licence
  • No account, no telemetry

Three steps, two minutes.

Releases are published on GitHub by the project's public build workflow.

  1. 1

    Download the zip

From the latest release, take bytopsy-<version>-x64.zip and the .sha256 file next to it.

  2. 2

    Check it

In PowerShell, in the folder you saved them to. The two hashes must be the same.

    Get-FileHash bytopsy-1.0.0-x64.zip
    Get-Content bytopsy-1.0.0-x64.zip.sha256
  3. 3

    Unpack and run

Unpack it anywhere and start bytopsy.exe, or bytopsy-cli.exe in a terminal. To keep everything on a USB stick, put an empty bytopsy.portable file next to them.

What you're installing.

Two native programs, the windowed app and the terminal app, with the same scanner. See the full tour.

Shows what fills your disk

A folder list sorted by size above a treemap of every file, plus largest files, file types, duplicates, old files and empty folders.

Cleans without breaking things

Temporary files, browser and app caches, developer junk and AI models, each measured first and checked against protection rules.

Keeps drivers and apps current

Driver updates from Windows Update itself and app updates through winget, only the ones you confirm.

Watches disk health

Wear, temperature, spare capacity and errors from the drives' own health logs, with low disk space alerts.

Tidies startup and apps

Startup entries, services and scheduled tasks, and uninstalls that show the leftovers they leave behind.

Undoes what it did

Deletes go to the Recycle Bin by default and every delete is written to a journal you can restore from.
